Not childlike
There is a child's gesture in this picture and nothing else about it is childlike.
The two refuse to sit together. I painted it to find out which one wins, and after several weeks neither had. If anything the small playful thing makes the rest stranger rather than softer, which is the opposite of what I expected when I started.

Buying is the easy part
The photograph this came from was made to be forgotten. This canvas was not. It took weeks, and it will hang on a wall for years.

That is the real decision, and it is yours. The ones who own these stop noticing the reaction after about a month, and never stop noticing the painting. Hang it anyway.
