Painted Idols needs idolaters.
A quarterly loan
Membership is open to addresses in the Netherlands.
What this is
Four times a year, a different one hangs in your house. One quarter there will be one you do not want to give back. That is the whole point.
The work is lent to you, not sold. It stays mine until you buy it, and every quarter it is exchanged for another. You pay a quarterly amount and a deposit, and one original oil painting hangs on your wall in the meantime. Nothing about it is a print, a reproduction or a rental towards ownership.
You join, and the first work goes home with you.
The Switch
Four times a year she leaves and another one takes her place. That is The Switch.
Switch Day
the moment it happens ▪ four a year, the same day for every member
- late January
- late April
- late July
- late Octobernext ▪ 2026
Come to Boekel on the day and you do the exchange yourself. New work stands in the studio before it goes into the shop, so this is where members see it first. What you take home is still drawn by lot: seeing it first is about buying, not about choosing. Coming costs you nothing.
The Draw
Which one comes next is drawn by lot, the same way for everyone. What is certain is that you never get the same work twice.
The Keep
Every switch is a work you let go of. The Keep is the one you do not.
Any quarter, you can decide to keep her. Or to buy another one entirely. Your last four quarters come off the price either way.
While she hangs with you, you are the only one who can buy her.
New work goes past the members first. You see it before it is in the shop, and you can claim it before anyone else.
The List
Membership is capped at one less than the number of works I can lend. That is why there is a list.

Membership is for addresses in the Netherlands. Everyone exchanges every quarter; beyond 100 km she travels by carrier, at your cost, and closer than that I bring her myself. Or you come and get her.

The membership and the deposit go into the basket as two lines, so the deposit can be returned on its own. Checkout asks for the address the work will hang at; there is nothing to pay for delivery.
Questions
Do I get to choose which one?
No. Every Switch Day the works are drawn by lot, the same way for everyone. What is fixed is that you never get a work you have had before, so over a membership you see the pool instead of your own taste four times over. Works hanging in another member's home are not in the draw until they come back. If you want one in particular, she is for sale, unless she is already hanging in someone's home, because the only person who can buy a work is the one it hangs with.
What if I damage her?
I insure the works I lend out. Ordinary traces of hanging are my concern and cost you nothing. Damage through carelessness is yours, up to the price on the work's page on the day it happened, and the deposit is what it comes off first. Tell me as soon as anything happens, with photographs, and leave the work as it is until you hear back.
What if my visitors hate it?
Some of them will, and they will say so in the hallway on the way out. That is not a fault in the work and it is not a reason to take it down. Hang it anyway. In three months there is another one, and you will find out which of the two you actually miss.
Can I keep her without buying her?
No. Every quarter she is exchanged, and that is the whole arrangement. If you cannot let her go, buy her: your last four quarters come off the price. A work that is not exchanged and not bought comes back to the studio and the membership ends.
What if I stop?
You can end your membership before any Switch Day, and the work goes back on that Switch Day by the route it came. What you already paid for a quarter that has started is not refunded; the deposit is, within fourteen days of the last work coming back undamaged.
